A: We’ve worked in production for over twenty years and have built a reputation based on trust, honesty and reliability. Over the years we’ve nurtured solid relationships with directors, suppliers and equipment houses, as well as casting directors, location libraries and crew, so we can provide the best solution to any project.
We’re resourceful and experienced problem solvers with a scaleable approach to production, working large and small. We’re a safe pair of hands for filming in the UK and our client feedback speaks for itself. Our process is transparent and we hold ourselves to account. Communication is clear and open, always.
Q: Are you a production company or service production company?
A: We’re actually both. We’re just as happy working as the lead production company on a project with a brand or agency as we are servicing shoots for others. Although we work across the UK, we also offer specific south coast service production to companies wanting to film on the south coast. Moremilk is based here and we’ve built an excellent network of crew, suppliers, locations and hotels in the region.
Q: Why don’t you have a roster of directors?
A: Because we’ve an excellent network of independent directors and prefer to apply a ‘best fit’ approach when pairing a director to a project. We consider ourselves creative matchmakers in this area, and work with directors experienced in any sector. So you can either come to us with a director in mind or attached, or we can help you find one.
In practice it usually works like this:
1) You approach us with a brief. 2) We find several suitable directors keen to get involved. 3) We present the directors back to you for review. 4) You agree a director to move forward with, either with project go-ahead or to submit a treatment and subsequent bid.
Q: Tell me about crew rates in the UK - how are they set?
A: Moremilk is a member of the Advertising Producer’s Association (APA) who sets the rates for freelance crew in advertising. A standard shoot day is 10 +1 hours (10 hours of filming and 1 hour for lunch). This is called a ‘straight day’. After these 11 hours, crew will charge overtime.
Saturday shoots are charged at 1.5x standard day rates and Sundays are 2x day rate. We’re across all of this and all crew costs are fully transparent in our budget proposals.
Q: Do you oversee post-production?
A: Yes, we can oversee a project from end to end. We have excellent relationships with editors, graders, post audio and effects companies, and can deliver according to specs for any country. Should you need a ‘shoot-only’ service from us, that’s fine too. We can transfer rushes acording to your needs so you have a seamless transition into post-production.
Q: Do you take care of contracts and licensing?
A: Yes we can do this too. We’re experienced at negotiating buyouts with agents for on-screen and voice talent, as well as music licensing for both original and library tracks.
Q: What are your views when it comes to diversity?
A: We’re doing our bit to make our industry more diverse and inclusive. This can be as simple as looking in new places to find crew, and encouraging our heads of department to consider diversity when crewing their teams.
Social mobility is important to us too because working class representation in the UK advertising industry doesn’t reflect the UK as a whole. We provide opportunities to people from underrepresented and disadvantaged groups, encouraging equality and diversity in our teams from the ground up. We partner with universities to help open doors to new entrants.
